Camera bag buyer’s guide

Best Camera Bags for Photographers

Three useful bags for everyday photography, protective carrying and travel

A camera bag should make it easier to carry the kit you really use. These are the three bags in my original shortlist, now organized by the job each one does best.

Start here

My quick picks

Start with how you carry and access the camera. Capacity comes after that.

The shortlist

How I would choose a camera bag

Access

A bag is only useful if you can reach the camera without unpacking everything or putting the bag on a dirty floor.

Protection

Padding, dividers, weather protection and secure openings matter more when the bag carries a larger or more expensive kit.

Comfort and capacity

Choose for the weight you will actually carry. An oversized bag usually becomes an excuse to bring equipment you do not need.

Best all-round camera backpack

Peak Design Everyday Backpack V2

Best for
Daily photography, commuting and photographers who want fast side access
Skip it if
You need maximum padding or carry a large professional telephoto kit
My verdict
This is the easiest choice when the same bag needs to work for photography and normal daily life.

The Everyday Backpack V2 keeps camera access quick without looking like a traditional equipment case. Its flexible interior makes sense when your load changes between a small street kit, a laptop and daily essentials.

Best protective camera backpack

Lowepro ProTactic 350 AW II

Best for
Working kits, structured organization and photographers who prioritize protection
Skip it if
You want a light bag that blends into everyday travel or street photography
My verdict
Choose the Lowepro when protecting and organizing the equipment matters more than keeping the bag discreet.

The ProTactic is the most equipment-focused option here. Its structured shape and modular storage suit photographers who need a predictable place for each body, lens and accessory on an assignment.

Best for travel

WANDRD PRVKE

Best for
Trips, mixed camera and personal loads, and photographers who want a roll-top backpack
Skip it if
You only carry a small camera and want the fastest possible access
My verdict
The PRVKE makes most sense when the bag needs to move between photography, travel and everyday use.

The PRVKE is the crossover choice. It gives you room to separate camera equipment from clothing or daily items, which is more useful on a trip than simply adding more padded lens compartments.

The short answer

So, which camera bag should you buy?

I would choose the Peak Design for a normal daily kit, the Lowepro for a larger working setup and the WANDRD when travel space matters as much as camera organization. Do not buy extra capacity unless you already know what needs to fill it.

Next step

Packing a sports photography kit?

See which fast camera belongs in the bag before deciding how much carrying capacity you need.
